Deepmind Carries out AI IQ Test

DeepMind

For years, one of the biggest worries about the growth of the use of AI has been in the way it will deal with reason. As humans, we find ourselves making many irrational choices. So, how can we expect AI to make up for own failings? If we program the framework, then how can we make sure the AI is no fallible to the same limitations that we are?

One person has a rough idea on how we might be able to get around this: DeepMind. A Google subsidiary that is all about AI, they recently produced a paper that laid out the answers which came from measuring an AI’ ability to reason.

To do so, they used the same kind of reasoning test that we would take as people: an IQ test. After all, why not test the AI to the same standards as a person?

DeepMind created a new software solution that could generate unique matrix problems, which the AI wold then need to solve. For those worrying that AI might be about to take over the world, fear not: the results aren’t exactly going to see us overpowered and overthrown just yet.

Better luck next time’

The results were, to say the least, not impressive. When the AI continued to work on the problem, the system managed to fare quite well when the same factor existed for the training and test problems. They were getting around 75% success rates when the test and then training program modules were more or less the same.

All it took to rock this, though, was a single change. What happened was that the AI would then start to produce much poorer and inconsistent scores when the platform would change. If the testing set was different from the training, the AI simply had no real answer.

This was the same even if the change was extremely small. Even a simple change in the color tone would be enough to leave the AI badly struggling to be able to make the most of the information in front of it. So, for those who are worried that AI might be getting beyond a point of safety, this should assuage some of your fears.

The AI IQ test immediately shows something that we already thought we knew: even the most advanced AIs at present at not quite ready to meet the human mind. If we have no ‘trained’ the AI to be fully ready to take on a highly specific test, it can struggle quite significantly.

For now, then, we are some way away from being able to make a general AI that can think, feel and deduce complex challenges. At least now we have a means of being able to see how the AI is improving and changing over time.

However, this should – at the very least – show people that the imminent replacement of humans with machines is still quite a way off: at least for the time being.

Future Technology Database Now Live

Startup Nation Finder

For some time now, the world of technology has been utterly transforming everything that we do. It has become among the biggest drivers of modern civilization, and pays a critical role in the growth of our species as a whole. More importantly, though, technology has become so vital to our way of modern life that we need to know what is coming ext.

Want to know what the future holds for the world of technology? Well, now you can. Thanks to the help of the new technology database by the Israeli Technology Transfer Organizations (TTOs). This database holds 1,300+ new techs which are both in development and in conceptualized stages of development.

Exciting stuff, right? We could be very much on the precipice of a wholesale change to the entire world – and we could know about it in advance. As one of the many layers of the Start-Up Nation Finding, a new discovery platform for innovators, this database helps us to see the amazing features of the future. From paper which can create its own electrical charge to renewable diesel, the world of tech is already looking to help transform the world.

From making cars more affordable and environmentally applicable to combating the signs of ageing and skin disease, technology has many ideas lined up for the short-term and long-term future. Undertaken by Israeli non-profit group Start-Up Nation Central (SNC), this is all about helping to “connect businesses, governments and organizations around the world to Israeli innovation.”

This exciting new experience is sure to play a major role in developing a long-term transformation of the tech industry. For example, this new database is going to help us see the upcoming changes in major technological pursuits. From drug discovery to materials science through to gene sequencing and even robotics, there’s an armada of options waiting for you to grasp hold of here.

For this reason, it has become easily one of the most popular options for those looking to innovate. It’s also showing the various patents, companies and research specialist who are registered with the 16 various TTOs throughout Israel.

Indeed, SNC is now combining data from the TTOs individually, to help make sure that it can correlate with their own data on the Start-Up Nation Finder. This is very important, and has been majorly assisted by Watson, the AI engine that IBM is creating. This has helped to work with complex technological content and make it more easily understood across the industry.

From the new AI systems which are coming that will work to help provide sight restoration to the use of spider silk proteins to create super strong fibers that could work for bone support and tissue reconstruction, many options exist.

In the past, we could only find out about the latest and greatest human technological innovations by reading about them as they were released. With this, we can see the changes arrive long before they are even created: now, you can see the concepts technology is presenting.

Use a Smartphone to Change Colors of ChroMorphous Clothes

fabric changes colors

Over the last decade or so, since the major development of the smartphone, we’ve seen the world alter before our very eyes. Now, solutions such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are common parts of the entire experience from day-to-day life. That being said, the latest changes from ChroMorphus, things might be about to take a whole new step forward.

At the moment, a single tap of our smartphone could do anything from call our dinner to change the music playing on a speaker. You have so many options for controlling day-to-day life around yourself using a smartphone. With ChroMorphus, though, things are totally changing what is likely to be possible.

This tech plan, a user-controlled color-altering piece of fabric, was created at The University of Central Florida by The College of Optics and Photonics. It allows for the change and alteration of the pattern of a piece of fabric using the mobile app.

Rather than merely being another light-based gimmick, this provides you with a physical transformation on the fabric itself. The fibers are made from a raw material grouping in Melbourne, Florida, and is shipped back to the team at the University. It’s then ‘hacked’ with a micro-wirer fitting into each thread, so that they can raise the local temperature on-demand to help adjust the pigment.

A New Step for Clothing and Textiles

This unique and interesting idea at first sound a little weird, but the idea behind it is sound. With everything around us being enshrined in technology, why should our clothing be any different?

While the fabric is likely to feel a touch rougher than the normal fabrics that we are used to, which will definitely put some people off, it appears the majority are quite interested in the idea. With the group already working on building up a whole host of new fabrics to make them smoother and less likely to become discomforting when being used, the long-term aim is to make it impossible to tell the difference here.

Since the wiring actually sits within the fiber itself, there’s no means for the artificial nature of the material to shine through. It’s far less obvious than other takes on this kind of technology in the past, and already breaks away from some of the conventional limitations that similar tools had come with in the past.

With the single tap of a button on the ChroMorphus app, one can change the shape and the layout of the textile that they are working with. It’s all very interesting, and it’s going to help make sure that we can get the very most out of the things that technology promised us for so long; total freedom over everything, including the color of our clothing!
