High Tech Meditation Headbands Join Old to New

It’s often said that our connection to the spiritual world has become increasingly unclear due to technological and material wants. That we cannot connect with our ‘higher selves’ with so much ease due to our constant distractions otherwise. While that might be true, it’s also true that a recent technological development might just be about to change all that. You see, a new headband of sorts could be used to help you train your brain into a meditative state.

Muse Headband

Many people try out meditation with little to no success, unable to create the harmonious circumstance needed to make it work as they would have intended. They try and focus the mind to a sharper level, and do all they can to try and create that inner connection. The first step, though, is the hardest: because to make that leap, you need to get what is going on in the brain in the first place.

This headband, then, is supposed to be the solution to this particular issue. While in the past you would need to undergo an electroencephalography (EEG) scan, this removes much of that challenge. The cost, time and the equipment needs meant that many of us would simply go without ever trying this out. The Muse headband, though, is going to do a lot to try and change that important perception.

Harnessing the power of the brain

This ‘brain training’ device will be used to help people get meditation ready in a short space of time. It’s all about releasing those billions of neurons into the human travel all work through our body in such small but important ways. By placing electrodes on the scalp during an EEG, we can track such movements.

With five brainwave types of the major category all worked out, this headband is supposed to help people understand all of this. From the slowest delta waves to the rapid gamma waves, you will be able to get a bit more understanding about how the brain works, and how you can get yourself into the right frame of mind.

However, the important thing to remember is that the brain of a regular meditator will be in totally different shape to your own. It’s like comparing your own physical fitness against that of a Premier League footballer. You should instead look to appreciate that many findings in the past show that the brainwaves of an experienced practitioner will differ from your own. Long-term graspers of meditation often find their lightbulb moment without the same reaching and grasping – they can focus on their needed thoughts easier.

The Muse, then, looks to combine classic old style meditation learning and ‘brain teaching’ into a headband. This wearable tool would allow you to determine and detect the activity of your brain better, allowing you to get real-time audio feedback to try and improve your meditative state.

If you are ever interested in trying out meditation and finding your zone with greater regularity, this is the best way to try it out. Overcoming that first hurdle is often the biggest challenge: now, you can make that much easier. In fact, I’ve personally gotten the upgrade, the Muse2 and give it two thumbs and two toes way up!

Flying Cops? Dubai Police Trial Flying Motorbikes

Flying Motorcycle in Dubai

As society continues to morph and change into something different every decade, last decade’ sci-fi movies become the present decades’ non-fiction. It’s becoming a habit that ideas once seen as beyond affordability in the past then become common pieces of technology to be used. For example, did you really think you would live to see flying bikes? Apparently, if you are reading this, you already have.

You see, the Police Force in Dubai have taken to trailing out the new electric vehicle take-off and landing (eVTOL) device. This outstanding new project came into place in late 2017, but it was not until now that we’ve seen actual footage of the hoverbikes under use. Dubai Police were happy to trial it out, and found that it might just be the perfect solution to help get around the crowded streets in search of the perpetrator.

Indeed, the S3 2019 Hoverbike by Hoversurf is already being used for training to help cops get ready to use such equipment in the near future. according to Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, the General Director of Dubai Police’ artificial intelligent team, said that he hoped to have the bikes in action by 2020. He said: “Currently we have two crews already training (to pilot the hoverbike) and we’re increasing the number,”

The Chief Operating Officer of Hoversurf, Joseph Segura-Conn, believed that the right user would be able to ride the bike and make use of the drone-operation system. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this develops, though. As Segura-Conn noted, though, the Dubai Police will have access to ordering as many units they need, saying: “They’re going to let us know in the next month or two if they’d like any more … If they would like 30 or 40, we’ll make it happen for them.”

Will such hoverbike go on commercial sale?

Presuming you have a cool $150,000 down the back of the sofa, then you could perhaps get your hands on one of these. Civilian orders are open, but at the moment they are going to require some pretty extensive screening if you wished to own one. For example, changes might come in the near future to determine if you would need a pilot’s license to fly one of these around the place.

While it’s obviously quite limited at present in terms of how it could, it’s more the theory of what could become possible in future bikes that makes this so exciting. From improving the battery to making it more comfortable to sit on – as well as easier to fly – will all become hallmarks of its development process.

Indeed, they even have operations beginning on a two-seater option – meaning that you could easily fit a duo of officers on the one bike. As time goes on, we expect more to come out about this unique technology.

Just remember, though, that if you are in Dubai in the year 2020 you will probably see cops hovering around in the sky above you!

The Rapid Rise of Vehicular Mounted Lasers

Military Jeep Laser

When you read that headline, you might be forgiven for thinking you’ve missed a few decades. Laser technology is often the go-to choice to signify an advanced society in the world of science fiction. However, it turns out that laser technology is already here – and could be used in various different ways. At the moment, the US Marines are able to use powerful laser technology to help knock out drones when on-the-go.

Drones obviously pose a unique challenge to the world of military operation, giving the opposition a great chance to spot the enemy in advance of their arrival. Thanks to the new Compact Laser Weapon System, though, that problem might be coming to an end. This is part of the Mobile Expeditionary High Energy Laser program is already being used across Europe and tested out on field experimentation.

This 5Kw laser will be used for everything from combatting and countering drones to taking out snipers, handling obstacles and setting off ordnance without having to get up close and personal. It could even be used to help limit enemy landing zones or defend airfields: the uses that it has can already feel quite limitless.

Tested at 2, 5 and 10Kw, this is a whole new kind of firepower that simply would not have seemed possible a decade ago. It’s been part of the program since the 2016 Maneuver Fires Integrated Experiment that took place in 2016. The coming year will see the 10Kw version tested out further.

Working atop tactical light vehicles mostly, this mounted weapons platform allows for easy adjustment and combat of just about any drone device. Now made public, this exciting new advancement in military technology lets us see just where the military industry is going to target new, modern threats.

Finding the right limit

While the power level of the device is about to go into the 10Kw level, we can expect this to be a range that is enough for now. According to experts on the field, that will be more than enough for a short-range, cost-effective solution for combatting drones and similar issues. With the capacity to take down as many as 10 targets in a few moments, anyway, is there really any need for extra power?

Seemingly so. While happy with the 10Kw limit for now, reports suggest that Boeing is already working on a 100Kw edition. This would be used for dealing with things like missiles and artillery fire, and would certainly make it much easier to feel comfortable with the threat of incoming artillery fire. While the machinations of war might never be something to feel too comfortable with major tech changes like this can only help to preserve the lives of soldiers serving.
