Octodecacopter Lives to Fly Another Day

The two seat Octodecacopter (pictured below), created by inventors in Germany, has lived to see another day. Scaled up from the kind of RC helicopter a person flies around their living room, the Octodecacopter continues to pass its flight tests.

According to Wired, “A German company has developed and flown a scaled-up version of the electric quadcopters normally seen darting around parks and fields, but this version will carry two people and could fly for up to an hour.

“E-volo’s new model has made “multiple flights lasting several minutes” according to the company, including flights to 22 meters (limited by flying indoors). The VC200 uses carbon fiber and 18 separate motors and propellers powered by multiple batteries for redundancy.”

So, next year if promoters can get Octomom to fly Octodecacopter for Octoberfest, we think throngs of people will show up for this. Ach du liebe Zeit!

FUEGO Satellite to Provide Fire Relief on West Coast

I live on the USA West Coast and know a thing or two about wildfires. I have a hard time getting insurance on my home since it is considered to be in a high risk “brush area”. A year ago, a 540 acre wildfire came within 3 miles of my home. And, every year in California there are wildfires which need time, manpower, muscle, technology, resources and money to fight.

So, that’s why I was happy to hear that researchers at the University of California at Berkeley and from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, have come up with a unique satellite design, called FUEGO (Fire Urgency Estimator in Geosynchronous Orbit).

According to Boise Weekly, “…they’ve designed such a satellite, with state-of-the-art sensors which would snap pictures of the ground every few seconds in search of hot spots that could be newly ignited wildfires. The researchers said firefighting resources could then be directed to the hotspots of preventing the fires from growing out of control.”

The early detection and immediate feedback from the FUEGO satellite will save time, money, land and lives. No word yet as to how campers would be affected. But, if successful, trees and homes will also be saved and less carbon will be spewed into the air we breathe.

Search Engines for Your Memories

It is often said that our brains catalog everything we experience and forget nothing. We only have to access that information to remember it.

With future technology that may be true. We’re talking Google Glass, Memoir app, Memoto and Everyday.me. With this tech we’ll be able to record all of our everyday experiences (sans feelings) and catalog it away digitally.

We’ll also be able to use our “brain search apps” to recall this digital information. Just think of having a robust Facebook-like timeline of our lives, our whole lives laid out in digital format intersected and cross-references with our actual brain memories.

Forget your Google Glass(es)? Just look on your timeline to the last place you left them.

If you’re into the future of recorded memory, then here’s a must-read article:
